CONTACT IMPROVISATION INTENSIVE RETREAT
This five-day festival is conceived as an immersive study of Contact Improvisation, integrating technical training, compositional research, and extended practice. Limited to a small, committed group, surrounded by forest, lakes and wide sky. We will explore the core principles and relational awareness through structured practice, compositional research, and extended jams
The retreat is designed for both experienced movers and steadily developing practitioners who are curious, committed, and ready to engage deeply.
The Structure
Morning sessions focus on physical principles: alignment, skeletal support, falling and recovery, spirals, counterbalance, lifts, and calibrated risk. Emphasis is on efficiency, clarity of pathways, and intelligent use of gravity.
Afternoon laboratories investigate improvisation as compositional and relational practice. Through structured scores, perception tasks, and collective exercises, we explore spatial awareness, timing, and group dynamics.
Evening jams function as integration laboratories — spaces where technical and compositional understanding unfolds through lived experience.
Small Group Format
Participation is limited to allow:
• Continuity of work
• Meaningful exchange
• Observing and being observed
• Building trust
• Real feedback and depth
A mixed level but committed group is welcome, people with or without CI experience and movers from related disciplines - provided there is readiness to engage attentively.
The Environment
We gather at your Kreativehaus Neue Mühle, approximately 45 km from Berlin, surrounded by forest, meadow, and water.
The venue offers a spacious studio, shared accommodation, and access to nature. The distance from the city supports focus, rest, and sustained inquiry.
Accommodation and all meals are included, allowing participants to fully immerse in the five-day rhythm.
